Strengthening Jobsite Safety Through ABC South Texas Training Programs
Commitment to Safety
Championing Safety Through Training and Education in South Texas
At ABC South Texas, safety is more than a requirement — it is a defining standard of our industry and a core part of our identity. ABC members are recognized among the safest contractors in the nation, and we work hard to ensure they have the tools, training, and support needed to maintain that distinction. Through a wide range of safety programs, training courses, and certifications, we help contractors strengthen their safety performance and demonstrate their commitment to protecting every worker on every jobsite.
Our chapter’s Safety and Health Committee plays an essential role in guiding this mission. Made up of experienced industry professionals, the committee helps develop comprehensive safety initiatives and provides the construction community with leading-edge strategies, practical insights, and proven best practices for building safer workplaces. Their leadership ensures our programs stay current, effective, and aligned with the evolving needs of the South Texas construction industry.
To support our members, ABC South Texas offers a full suite of safety training programs designed for all levels of experience. Our courses go beyond basic compliance, encouraging proactive decision-making, stronger safety cultures, and long-term risk reduction. From essential OSHA standards to advanced emergency response instruction, every program is taught by skilled professionals who bring hands-on experience to the classroom.
By engaging in these safety programs, members invest in safer jobsites, stronger teams, and a construction environment where safety is embraced as everyone’s responsibility. Together, we are shaping a safer future for South Texas — one project, one company, and one worker at a time.
ABC’s Total Human Health Initiative reflects the commitment to employees’ well-being beyond basic safety. It embodies a holistic approach, emphasizing that a healthy workforce is resilient. The program encompasses four key dimensions: Body, Heart, Mind, and Soul, ensuring employees have the tools and support they need to thrive on and off the job.

OSHA Alliance Program
The OSHA Alliance Program is a collaborative initiative that brings together OSHA and organizations committed to improving workplace safety and health. Through formal Alliance agreements, OSHA works with trade associations, educational institutions, and industry leaders to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses, and fatalities by expanding access to safety information, training, and resources .
Unlike enforcement programs, the Alliance Program focuses on education, outreach, and training, helping employers and workers better understand their rights, responsibilities, and best practices under the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Alliance participants do not receive exemptions from OSHA inspections or enforcement activities. Instead, the program emphasizes proactive safety leadership and continuous improvement across high-hazard industries such as construction .

How ABC South Texas Leverages the OSHA Alliance for Members
ABC South Texas uses the OSHA Alliance framework to deliver meaningful safety value to its members by strengthening education, awareness, and communication throughout the construction community. Through this partnership approach, ABC South Texas helps translate OSHA guidance into practical, real-world applications that contractors can implement on their jobsites.
By participating in Alliance-driven initiatives, ABC South Texas works closely with OSHA to share up-to-date regulatory information, enforcement trends, and compliance assistance resources with members. This includes promoting best practices, distributing safety materials, and hosting educational sessions that focus on reducing jobsite hazards and improving overall safety performance .

Why Join?
SAFETY IS A CORE VALUE - WITH STEP, YOU CAN BUILD UPON IT
ABC’s STEP program provides a structured, 20-point framework for building, evaluating, or improving company-wide safety and loss-prevention programs. By combining lagging indicator data with leading indicator practices and self-assessment tools, STEP delivers a comprehensive view of a company’s overall safety performance. Designed for both large and small contractors, the program offers recognition at the Chapter and National level and serves as a pathway to Accredited Quality Contractor status. STEP Diamond and Platinum recipients also qualify for the ABC National Safety Excellence Award, which shows that STEP participants outperformed national BLS averages in all major safety metrics, giving companies a competitive advantage during bidding and when negotiating insurance rates.
