ApprenticeshipOpen Enrollment
Join the ranks of these ABC-South Texas Apprenticeship Graduatesand become a South Texas Construction Industry Future Leader!
Applications will be accepted during open enrollment (June 1 through August 31) for individuals seeking an apprenticeship in the following trades: Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing and Sheet Metal. Apprenticeship includes attending a minimum of 576 curricula hours and 8,000 Hands-On (OJT) training hours earned with a Sponsor Employer during the four year period. Individuals completing the apprenticeship program requirements will receive a Dept. of Labor Office of Apprenticeship Journeyman Status Completion Certificate and all related National Center for Construction Education and Research completions for their trade.Interested applicants should schedule an appointment to complete the three hour application process by contacting the ABC-South Texas office at (210) 342-1994 and asking for a Workforce Development Staff member. If you come by the office without an appointment you will be turned away.Applicants must be 18 yrs or older and bring a valid drivers license/identification card. All males between 18 and 25 yrs of age will be verified for Selective Service Registration. Electrical and Plumbing applicants will be given applicantions to apply for the state apprenticeship license if they have not already applied. These two trades require licensing in Texas.It is necessary to arrive promptly for application appointments. The application process will include filling out the application, taking a basic reading and math test (this is not used for ranking purposes) and be interviewed or scheduled for an interview at a later date. Applicants without Sponsor Employers will be placed in an apprentice pool by rank and offered leads according to their placement for up to two years unless written removal from the apprentice pool is received or failure to maintain updated contact information occurs.Participation in the 2012-2013 School Year starting in September requires an applicant to be with a verified Sponsor Employer prior to beginning school.Click Here For more information on Apprenticeship Thank you.
